Ambassador’s Biography



H.E. Mr. Niranjan Kumar Thapa is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Government of Nepal to State of Israel. He is also non-resident Ambassador to Republic of Cyprus.

Born in 1951, May 4 Ambassador Thapa has earned Bachelor Degree in Law from Nepal Law Campus in 1979 with Constitutional Law, Procedural law, Election Law, Evidence Law and Municipal Law as the core subjects.

Ambassador Thapa has garnered decades of administrative, organizational and governmental experience while serving as Assistance Minister for Local Development from 1981-1983, State Minister for Home Affairs from 1983-1986, Chairman of Nepal Law Commission from 2003-2005 and Minister for Law and Justice from 2005-2006.

Prior to representing Nepal in State of Israel as an ambassador, he has represented Nepal in various international meetings and seminars viz; Periodic review of human rights status of Nepal in 2005, Drug Trafficking Issue in Austria in 1989. He was also involved in drafting landmark acts and laws of Nepal like Nepal Policy Act, Information Technology, Right to Information Act and other related laws while he was serving as Chairman of Nepal Law Commission. He has published numerous articles and reports in national and international journals and leading dailies of Nepal.

He is married to Mrs. Nirmala Adhikari Thapa and is blessed with two daughters.
